Occupy L.A.: Through the words of an artist
As protesters come and go, the one constant at Occupy L.A. is art. There is rarely a time on the grass surrounding City Hall that someone is not expressing themselves through painting, silk-screening, dance, music and poetry. As demonstrators walk along Temple Street and chant slogans to loud drumbeats, they pass by tents offering healing chakra massages, books and food. Along the concrete steps, organizers huddle to discuss the business of keeping a movement alive as campers nearby stretch through a session of yoga. All the while the sound of guitars, violins, flutes and drums hangs in the smoky air, laying down a soundtrack for this flowering movement.
